  • "Interpreting Nature Through Glass; Sharing the Journey and
  • Process of Casting
  • by local Glass sculptor Donna Rice

  • Donna will present the art of cast glass as a sculptural medium, using
  • examples of her own work and that of other artists who have influenced
  • and inspired her.

  • Donna earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University,
  • where her career was set the moment she entered the glassblowing
  • studio.  She continued her studies at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle,
  • founded by Dale Chihuly, and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie of Art in
  • Amsterdam.

  • She has worked at the world-renowned Frabel Studio in Atlanta creating
  • glass sculptures using lamp-working torches.  The highlight of her time
  • with Frabel was designing, with Hasn Frabel, an ad campaign for Absolut
  • Vodka featuring the famous Frabel "Clowns".


  • Upon leaving Frabel, she became an entrepreneur and is
    especially proud of the contract she received from Tiffany's, New
    York, from which many exciting projects ensued.  She was also the
    owner/artist of Summit Knoll Glass, Winchester, VA, where she
    created countless awards and sculptures for corporate clients.

  • For the past ten years, she has focused her efforts on the
    complicated, yet peaceful, art of cast glass sculpture.  Newly
    relocated to Palm Coast, she recently set up a studio/gallery at
    Nature Scapes Garden Center in Bunnell.  Visitors are welcomed
    daily to learn more about the interesting process of glass casting,
    and to share in her inspirations.
